The Hypernaut!

"It Came from... Higher Space!" by Alan Moore, Stephen R. Bissette and Chester Brown. From 1963, Book Three, published by Image Comics in 1993. Scans via Again With the Comics

The 1963 series was a satiric homage to early Marvel Comics (with occasional nods to DC characters). The Hypernaut story is also inspired by Edwin A. Abbott's 1884 novel Flatland: A Romance of Many Dimensions.

Here's a page I scanned a few years ago for a friend. It's from Chris Ware's excellent book collection The Acme Novelty Library.

The CIA-funded "Animal Farm" (1954) [VIDEO]

Animal Farm is a 71-minute long animated film by the British animation studio Halas and Batchelor. It's based on the classic George Orwell book, which was picked by Time Magazine as one of the 100 best English-Language novels between 1923 and 2005.

The film is somewhat notorious for having been covertly financed by the Central Intelligence Agency, back when then were sponsoring anti-communist art. (The CIA's involvement is apparently detailed in this book.)

Nevertheless, it's a pretty good film, and only devolves into propaganda towards the very end. (By the way: It's 83% fresh on Rotten Tomatoes, but only six reviews are counted. The lone dissenting voice, worth 17%, is a two-line review from "Staci's Guide to Animal Movies".) You can watch the entire movie on YouTube.
